Popular video game spoofs TSA thuggery

From Urlesque:

World of Warcraft Quest Makes Players Conduct TSA Patdowns

There's a growing internet backlash against the TSA's new groping policy security procedures, and it looks as if even the makers of World of Warcraft have jumped on board. The game now has its own little jab at security theatre, where two cities have started searching their citizens for "cultist documents."

It might take some explaining unless you're a dyed-in-the-Cheeto-dust online gamer, so here's the basic rundown as I understand it. A new WoW expansion called Cataclysm is about to come out, featuring a story where a dragon rips apart the game world and causes some sweeping, apocalyptic changes. In one of the quests leading up to these events, players have to team up with the gate guards and frisk the townspeople themselves, with an "I'm going to search you, citizen." The responses are also exactly what you hear in airport security lines: "Can you hurry? I have to be somewhere."

This quest has probably been in the works since well before the TSA's backscatter scanners and groping new physical searches went into effect. On the other hand, the new security measures had been planned and publicly announced months before they actually happened. Whether or not this was a comment on post-9/11 travel restrictions, it definitely feels like one when airport security is all over the news.
